But what if that isn’t true? What if the change required to sidestep chaos is so simple that many of us learned the concept as children? You may recall cartoon characters finding themselves in a difficult spot when suddenly two little characters would land on their shoulders- a white angel and a red devil. We laughed as the red devil gave advice that would lead the character into more trouble, while the white angel’s advice would resolve the issue. 

What if that familiar cartoon was actually playing out in our own lives today?

We perceive swirling life circumstances and then interpret these circumstances based upon our own life experience. These interpretations drive our reaction. One interpretation comes from that angel character, and one comes from the devil character. As adults, we call the “angel” perspective our inner sage, gut feeling or truth, while we refer to the “ little devil” as our inner critic, Judge or ego. These characters play a very real role in our lives.

Our daily challenge is to recognize these competing voices in our head and examine which perspective is the one that serves us. Our inner sage is always available and speaks words that bring calm and peace. To access your sage, create quiet time. That may be in meditation, prayer, on a nature walk or in a Harmonic Egg, where you can relax and attune your energy. When we calm our minds the chaos subsides.
